Bypassed

West and north of Sacramento, California, is a land few people visit--or even see.  They drive over it on elevated sections of freeway; they may glimpse rice paddies or dry fields or, in the rainy season, they see acres and acres of water, a kind of inland sea.  This is the Yolo Bypass, an enormous flood storage system, and a place known mostly to farmers.  And to birds. 

This painting is of Conaway Ranch, in the heart of the Yolo Bypass.  Painted with gratitude as part of the Yolo County Art and Ag program.
